Project Description

Red River Theatres

Red River Theatres is not-for-profit, community-supported movie theater which seeks to highlight independent film and New England filmmakers. Red River Theatres is a state of the art 3-screen, 8,500 square foot art-house cinema in the lower level of Capital Commons, at 11 S. Main Street in downtown Concord. The two larger cinemas are equipped with Dolby digital sound, Christie digital projection equipment and stadium seating. The smaller cinema is flexibly designed and newly renovated (as of January 2017) space designed for as a screening room for workshops, special showings, receptions and other functions. The facility is ADA accessible, and each of the three theaters are available to rent for private and public functions, by individuals, businesses, and organizations.

The concession stand, The Indie Cafe, offers beer, wine (including local options), sandwiches by The Works, Mitchell’s Salsa and Chips, White Mountain Coffee and Granite State Candy Shoppe’s locally-made chocolates in addition to the movie theater staples – great popcorn, candy, and soda. There also has a small gallery that rotates monthly, offering local artists the opportunity to exhibit and sell their work to the theater’s many donors, members, and patrons.

The theater’s mission is “to present film and the discussion of film as a way to entertain, broaden horizons and deepen appreciation of life for audiences of all ages.” To that end, Red River offers a diverse program of first-run independent films, cult favorites, classics, local and regional film projects, foreign films and lots of discussion. Conversation and civic engagement are at the heart of what makes Red River so popular in the community and so important to the New Hampshire cultural scene.
